The VENOM ENERGY ORIGINAL, renewed in the spring of 2022. Previously sold as VENOM ENERGY BLACK MAMBA, it underwent a name and design change along with a reformulation. The transition gradually rolled out across stores nationwide in the U.S.

Flavor of VENOM ENERGY ORIGINAL

Upon opening, a burst of intense, classic energy drink aroma mixed with an air-freshener-like scent rushes out. It's been a while since my last VENOM, but just the scent alone instantly brought back memories of that bold flavor.

Taking a sip, you get a fruity mix of tart apple and banana wrapped in that same air-freshener-like aroma.

The taste is similar to Monster Energy Original, with a strong, punchy flavor. However, it feels noticeably lighter on the palate compared to the previous version.

Checking the ingredients, the sugar content has been reduced by 17g, now down to 40g.

The previous version contained a staggering 57g of sugar per 473ml, which always felt excessive. With the update, it now falls into a more standard range.

Since zero-sugar is the trend in the U.S. right now, reducing sugar and calories makes sense.

With the 2022 VENOM ENERGY series revamp, several zero-sugar variants were introduced. It seems even this traditionally rich-flavored series is adapting to the changing landscape—or maybe it's just a cost-cutting measure.

Design of VENOM ENERGY ORIGINAL

With the 2022 update, the product name became clearer, making it easier for first-time VENOM ENERGY drinkers to grasp the flavor.

The previous "Black Mamba" name didn’t convey any specific taste, but with "Original" written on the can, most people can assume it’s a classic energy drink flavor.

Personally, I feel that dropping the snake-themed names diminishes the signature edgy, over-the-top style that defined the VENOM ENERGY series…

The logo design also changed, losing its blood-dripping fangs.

The old logo had a distinctively 2000s, slightly tacky charm that felt very "VENOM ENERGY." But with the new logo and the standard "ORIGINAL" font, it looks like just another generic energy drink now.
