VENOM ENERGY ZERO SUGAR ORIGINAL is a newly released product from the VENOM ENERGY series, renewed in the spring of 2022.

The previous version was a low-calorie variant that contained a small amount of sugar, but in an era where zero-sugar dominates the U.S. market, it seems they have switched to a completely sugar-free formula.

The classic aroma that bursts out upon opening is slightly more subdued compared to the original. Perhaps the scent has been toned down to match the zero-sugar concept.

When taking a sip, it tastes almost identical to Monster Energy Absolutely Zero, now called Zero Sugar. It has a lingering sweetness, yet the aftertaste isn't overly sticky. While the difference from the full-sugar version is noticeable, it still delivers a bold, classic energy drink flavor with a punch.

The unpleasant taste often associated with artificial sweeteners is well-masked, blending with the natural chemical notes of energy drinks, making it less noticeable. That said, since it's sugar-free, the taste is undeniably lighter. If I wanted to enjoy this classic flavor in full, I'd probably opt for the full-sugar version.

Comparing it to the previous VENOM ENERGY MOJAVE RATTLER, the difference in sugar content was only 8g.

At that point, reducing it to zero makes sense. With sugar-free drinks in high demand and sugar prices continuing to rise, it's no surprise they took this opportunity to rebrand as "Zero Sugar."

The purple color scheme from the previous version remains, but the top of the can is now white with bold "Zero Sugar" lettering, making it easier to recognize.

VENOM ENERGY ZERO SUGAR ORIGINAL is essentially the zero-sugar version of the red original, but since its main color is purple, it can be momentarily mistaken for a different flavor.

Even now, when I see this color, I instinctively wonder if it’s a grape flavor or something similar. They probably kept the purple from the previous version, but using red with a white band might have been a better choice.

Comparing the old and new versions, the VENOM logo has been simplified to plain white, toning down the previously cringe-worthy aesthetic. The fang-inspired design still remains to some extent, though.
