In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor with Intense Lemon-like Sourness, a Vitamin Drink-inspired Taste
The deep yellow color gives off a classic flavor vibe, but the scent isn’t sweet. Instead, it has the distinctive sour aroma typical of vitamin drinks.
When you take a sip, it delivers a sharp, citric acid-packed, vitamin drink-like flavor. There’s no sweetness, just sourness all the way through. It reminds me of Japan’s small-bottle lemon-flavored vitamin C drinks.
While it's not unpleasant, the constant sourness makes it tough to drink a full 473ml can. Even 250ml might be a challenge. I think the small bottle size found in Japan would be the ideal amount.
In Mexico, the 473ml can is the main product, though a bottled version is also available. There used to be mini sizes, but it seems they've now consolidated everything into the 473ml can.
Energy Ingredients of VOLT ENERGY YELLOW
It contains 94.6mg of caffeine, 1892mg of taurine, and 1135mg of glucuronolactone. The caffeine content seems fairly mild for a 473ml size.
While it's marketed with an emphasis on guarana and vitamins, the exact amount of guarana is unknown.
Design of VOLT ENERGY YELLOW
Despite the product being called “Yellow,” the main color is blue.
There’s also a blue version called "VOLT ENERGY BLUE" sold in Mexico.
Although yellow is incorporated, it’s not hard to see why someone unfamiliar with the VOLT series might find the “blue but yellow” design a bit odd.
Overall, the design feels like the typical vibe of lesser-known energy drinks, with nothing particularly noteworthy.
