WATT ENERGY MANGO RHUBARB
WATT, a budget energy drink brand from Hungary, released this limited edition Mango Rhubarb flavor in the summer of 2018. How many energy drinks do you know that incorporate rhubarb, a vegetable, as a flavor? It’s intriguing to think about how the combination of mango and rhubarb would taste!

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Lightly Sweet Peach Nectarine-like Flavor
Upon tasting, you’ll experience a sweet, peach-like aroma followed by a light, sweet-and-sour peach flavor. Although the product is named "Mango Rhubarb," it doesn’t quite taste like mango.
By the way, rhubarb is a leafy vegetable with red stalks, which is used in jam and baking. The toxic leaves are discarded, and the red stalks are cooked like fruit.
Although rhubarb isn’t common in Japan, it’s regularly eaten in processed forms in Europe and North America. It is known for its intense sourness.
So, does mixing mango sweetness and rhubarb sourness result in a peach flavor? It’s a bit of a stretch, but this flavor is so well executed that I think it could simply be a peach flavor.
After researching rhubarb, I found that rhubarb juice exists, and now I’m curious to try a pure rhubarb flavor! (*´艸`*)
WATT ENERGY MANGO RHUBARB Energy Ingredients
It contains 80mg of caffeine, along with a WATT blend of guarana, yerba mate, damiana, and schisandra.
These are standard energy blends in the WATT series, though damiana and schisandra are rare ingredients in energy drinks and are not commonly found in many brands.
WATT ENERGY MANGO RHUBARB Design
The design features the orange of ripe mango and the purple of rhubarb, with a clean and sophisticated contrast of white and black, making it look quite elegant.
Although it’s labeled as a summer edition by WATT, it doesn’t specifically state this on the product. This was the case with past seasonal editions as well.
On the back, despite being a budget energy drink brand, there was a discount tab campaign. Low-cost brands in Europe often go beyond just releasing products; they frequently run live promotions both on their products and online, which is enjoyable to watch. I can appreciate the effort put into releasing seasonal editions like this.
Since this design, the WATT logo has been stamped on the logo tab. While it’s a low-price energy drink brand, it’s nice to see such a detailed touch (*´ェ`*)
