In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of XYIENCE FRUIT PUNCH
I was excited to see what kind of flavor a zero-zero fruit punch would achieve! But my first impression was that there wasn’t the typical strong scent of fruit punch, and I was a bit confused about the flavor while pouring it into the glass. I couldn’t really enjoy the scent until I tasted it.
The color is exactly like fruit punch, a slightly cloudy wine red with transparency. The bright red might be a color choice that subtly acknowledges the zero-zero style.
The taste is quite sour, and at first, I didn’t get the typical fruit punch flavor. The strong sourness makes it feel more like a mix of acerola and a rich cherry flavor rather than the usual fruit punch. The deep, sugary richness typical of fruit punch isn’t present.
However, thanks to the strong sourness, I didn’t feel much of the artificial sweetener’s taste or aftertaste. While it’s debatable whether this can be called fruit punch, the way it avoids the zero-zero taste is highly commendable.
Energy Ingredients of XYIENCE Xenergy Fruit Punch
Zero calories, zero sugar. It contains 184mg of caffeine, 2000mg of taurine, guarana, ginseng, carnitine, and other basic energy ingredients. These are standard energy ingredients commonly found in the U.S.
At the time, XYIENCE was the official energy drink of the UFC, so it might have been more interesting if it contained some unique ingredients.
Former UFC Official Energy Drink
When it comes to UFC energy drinks, XYIENCE Xenergy was the go-to, but now (as of 2015), it has been replaced by Monster Energy.
The old logo. The UFC logo is no longer on the cans.
XYIENCE became synonymous with UFC and martial arts, and its can design, with its mirrored silver and black lettering, felt incredibly cool. This shows how important brand image and strategy are. XYIENCE during this era was the coolest.
When considering the overall design, I think a silver pull tab would have worked well, or perhaps a black tab that shows the hairline texture (●´ω`●).
But this is all about the total image, right? Because the UFC image was so solidified, the simple, cool, and slightly rugged silver tab naturally worked.
