Review : Bireley's Adult Peel Lemon
Released on August 15, 2023, with a lineup of summery lemonade drinks, I’ll be casually reviewing this one.
With the name "Adult Peel Lemon," I’m expecting a rich, bittersweet, and refreshing flavor! What does it actually taste like, though?
Having tasted many rich-flavored energy drinks from around the world, the Energy Drink Mania will now try the Adult Peel Lemon!

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Bireley's Adult Peel Lemon
Upon opening, a strong lemon candy-like scent bursts out. From the aroma, there's not much of a rich, adult taste. The color of the drink is a beautiful cloudy appearance that suggests it contains real lemon fruit! Let's give it a taste.
When you take a sip, the lemon flavor is refreshing and crisp. There’s no lemonade sweetness, and the acidity is just the right amount of刺激—about one step short of the sourness found in vitamin C drinks.
Although the name "Adult Peel Lemon" suggests it might have the bitterness, tartness, and juiciness of lemon peel, the flavor isn’t as rich as expected. Instead, there’s a peculiar aftertaste that reminds me of bath salts.
Whether this aftertaste feels "adult-like" is debatable. The catchphrase "Crisp Lemonade" may sound fitting, but when consumed cold, it’s hard to call it lemonade—it’s not bad, but it didn’t provide a feeling of satisfaction or specialness.
Making a Refreshing Adult Lemonade at Room Temperature
While reviewing, the bottle gradually warmed up to room temperature, and when I tasted it again, the lemon flavor became a bit milder, and the umami increased, making it more enjoyable.
If it’s chilled or with ice, the sweetness from the sugar may dissipate too much, and the lemonade flavor could seem a little lacking. I started with it cold, though.
The label mentions that it’s delicious when frozen, but freezing it would likely cause most of the flavor to disappear, so that seems a bit questionable... Personally, I recommend enjoying Bireley’s Adult Peel Lemon chilled, then savoring the changes in flavor as it warms up to room temperature.
Energy Ingredients of Bireley's Adult Peel Lemon
It contains 3% fruit juice. There are over 50g of carbohydrates, so it may not be ideal for adults without an exercise routine... Given the flavor, I feel like it could have been almost sugar-free, so I thought, "Why so much sugar?"
Design of Bireley's Adult Peel Lemon
The bottle’s rounded shape, reminiscent of a glass bottle, is cute, and the slightly muted light blue color gives it a summery, limited edition look that’s quite appealing.
The image of sliced lemon peel inside the bottle adds a nice touch of beauty as well.
While the flavor wasn’t quite what I expected for an "Adult Peel Lemon," I absolutely love the design. It’s a vintage adult vibe, which is exactly why I wanted to buy it and give it a try.
It’s likely available for under 100 yen at a supermarket, so I recommend picking it up there. Start drinking it chilled, and slowly enjoy the changes in flavor as it warms up to room temperature.
