Review : Fanta Premier Pear
The 5th edition of Fanta's high-juice content premium line, "Fanta Premier Pear." This high-priced product comes in a small 380ml bottle, and after discovering a new gold mine, it has become a series. It seems to be selling quite well.
The Fanta Premier series has often featured quite tasty products, and even though they are on the pricier side, many of them are worth the price.
This pear flavor contains 16% fruit juice. Let's see how an energy drink enthusiast, who is accustomed to rich global flavors, feels about it in this relaxed review.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Fanta Premier Pear
Upon opening, a scent reminiscent of freshly grated pear is clearly recreated, and with this aroma, you have a strong sense that a real fruit experience might be in store.
When you take a sip, you get a subtly sweet pear taste. Surprisingly, it lacks richness, and many may not feel the "luxurious" fruitiness of 16% pear juice as indicated.
It’s a real taste in the sense that it’s authentic. According to Fanta’s official statement, they "grated the pear skin as well," so it makes sense that they ended up with this real pear flavor.
When it comes to "premium," was it meant to emphasize realness or a richer pear taste...? Personally, I would have preferred a little more depth or fruity richness to better match the "premium" image.
The fruitiness feels a bit weak, and since it’s a sugar-sweetened carbonated Fanta with no real freshness, it leaves a half-hearted impression even if you drink it casually without overthinking.
If the goal is to give the simple pear flavor a "premium" touch, it seems that in addition to this excellent scent, a "rich" taste enhancement would have made the satisfaction level much higher.
The label design is fantastic, and I had high expectations... but the taste felt a bit indecisive. It would have been better if it had clearly leaned towards either a crisp and refreshing profile or a rich, flavorful one.
Price and Sales of Fanta Premier Pear
It’s priced at 170 yen (excluding tax) for 380ml. This is a high-priced product comparable to energy drinks. However, it’s reported that the series has exceeded 120 million units sold over two and a half years, making it a great success.
I noticed that in 2019, the ZONe energy drink surpassed 100 million units, and given that Fanta Premier doesn’t collaborate or engage in similar high-priced promotions, the popularity seems tremendous. I expect that the Fanta Premier series will continue to release new products consistently.
