ZONe ENERGY 5772K

ZONe ENERGY 5772K

This is a review of "ZONe ENERGY 5772K," which was exclusively released at Don Quijote on December 3, 2024. This review was made possible by a pre-release sample provided to me.

The logo, flickering with flames, and the words "Spicy Energy Drink" ... Looks like the spicy flavor, which I personally tend to avoid, is confirmed. Let's give it a try.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of ZONe ENERGY 5772K

Upon opening, a sweet, classic flavor mixed with a chemical, bubblegum-like scent bursts out. Spicy carbonated drinks often刺激ate the nasal mucous membranes due to the spices and carbonation, but ZONe ENERGY 5772K was almost non-irritating. Let's give it a try.

When I take a sip, the sweet and tangy taste of the classic flavor immediately spreads, followed by a medicinal scent. Then, a spicy, tingly sensation from the spices spreads across the tongue and down my throat.

The base flavor, a classic chemical taste, has a solid sweetness, balancing the spicy sensation, almost 50:50. It's not a dry, sharp flavor, but a sweet and spicy balance.

If you're expecting a strong spicy kick from the flame logo, it might not be as intense as anticipated. Some may feel it lacks the spiciness they crave.

That said, as someone who isn’t fond of spicy drinks, the heat was a bit much for me... As the warning suggests, if you're sensitive to spice, this might not be the best choice.

Energy Ingredients of ZONe ENERGY 5772K

Energy Ingredients of ZONe ENERGY 5772K
Contains 75mg of caffeine, 2000mg of arginine, and ginseng.

The concept behind this product was to meet the demand from passionate energy drink consumers asking for a drink with a lot of arginine. ZONe has incorporated a record-breaking 2000mg of arginine.

Additionally, based on requests from Don Quijote's product developers, the flavor was designed to be spicy.

Though the ingredients don’t list chili or ginger, there’s a note on the label warning of the spicy sensation.

Upon confirming with Suntory, it turns out chili and ginger are not included as ingredients, but rather as flavoring agents. Interesting!

Design of ZONe ENERGY 5772K

The design features a simple black can with a burning, fiery power logo and the text "5772K," with bright red accents.

At the bottom of the can, there's a note stating "Spicy Energy Drink," making it clear that this is a spicy energy drink. But what does "5772K" mean?

The back of the can explains that "5772K" refers to the sun's surface temperature, which makes sense.
Design of ZONe ENERGY 5772K
It’s common for spicy-flavored products to use sun or flame imagery, but it's intriguing to see the surface temperature of the sun incorporated into the product name. It sparks curiosity and invites the consumer to think for a moment.

Design of ZONe ENERGY 5772K
In addition to the spicy kick, the 2000mg of arginine is a standout feature of ZONe ENERGY 5772K, highlighted at the top of the can with a prominent red line and the label "Arginine 2000mg."

The combination of the sweet, classic flavor with a tingly spicy sensation creates a unique, almost exotic flavor. Limited sales channels, such as Don Quijote, may be the best strategy for such a special flavor.

Design of ZONe ENERGY 5772K
The can design is cool, yet this PR image gives an impression of a quirky, experimental limited edition that could make for an interesting release at Don Quijote, possibly targeting novelty or viral buzz.
