Upon opening, the characteristic intense sweet, classic aroma of ZONe bursts out. The strength of the scent is still quite noticeable.

Has the flavor changed with this update? Upon tasting, the sweet and tangy, rich, classic flavor spreads across the palate. It's still quite strong.

There is almost no noticeable change in taste from the previous version, but I do feel that the chemical taste has slightly weakened. Wasn't it a bit stronger before? I always thought the original ZONe had a rather strong chemical odor.

I feel like the difference in taste might be due to the slight increase in caffeine (only 50mg), which could contribute to a bit more bitterness. But can just 50mg really make that much of a difference? The sweetness and acidity remain exactly the same, so unless you're really paying attention, you might not notice the difference at all.

The original ZONe is quite intense in both aroma and aftertaste, so the major update to Ver. 2.0.0 is also recommended to be served with ice. When chilled thoroughly, it becomes much easier to drink and more delicious. So tasty! (๑´ڡ`๑)

We can see that the flavor is almost the same as the previous version, but just to be thorough, let’s compare Ver. 2.0.0 with the old Ver. 1.3.9.

Comparing Ver. 2.0.0 with Ver. 1.3.9

The color and aroma are almost identical. If the glasses were shuffled, you wouldn’t be able to tell which one is Ver. 2.0.0.

When tasted alternately with some water in between, both drinks have the same sweet and tangy, classic flavor. However, Ver. 2.0.0 feels like its intensity has slightly softened. Is it the sweetness, or has the chemical taste been reduced? The difference is so subtle that after a few comparisons, it becomes hard to discern. If you're really trying to notice the difference, your mind might play tricks on you.

Nevertheless, the classic base flavor remains the same—Ver. 2.0.0 still fills the room with the strong, sweet aroma, and the taste is rich.

The press release for ZONe Ver. 2.0.0 mentions "evolved with increased caffeine for a more satisfying, energetic taste," so it's likely that they've made slight changes to the flavor. But honestly, I don't think you'll really notice a difference while drinking it. (；´∀｀)

When comparing the ingredients, everything except caffeine is almost the same. The previously criticized low caffeine content has been increased for Ver. 2.0.0. So, while the taste remains unchanged, be cautious of the increased caffeine content in the future, especially if you tend to drink too much.

Energy Ingredients of ZONe Ver. 2.0.0

ZONe Ver. 2.0.0 contains 150mg of caffeine and 1000mg of arginine. The caffeine amount is slightly higher than Monster Energy's 142mg. Compared to other products, this should satisfy users who prioritize caffeine content.

Another signature ingredient of ZONe is Palatinose 5g, which provides sustained energy.

On the back label, there are detailed warnings regarding the increased caffeine content.

I’ve tried many energy drinks from around the world, but I’ve never seen one that has such detailed consumption limits based on age and weight. This suggests that there may be a significant number of children under 18 purchasing this product.

ZONe Ver. 2.0.0 Design

The area around the power logo is designed like plasma, which feels a bit overdone, with something emanating from the center. It gives off a somewhat cheap impression. (；´∀｀) According to the press release, this is meant to represent the "ZONe EYE," which symbolizes entering the invincible zone.

On the front, there is a large label stating that it contains 150mg of caffeine, which is nearly double that of Red Bull and slightly more than Monster Energy. This is one of the key selling points of Ver. 2.0.0.

Additionally, ZONe has shifted its branding from "Digital Performance Energy" to "Unlimited Performance Energy" starting with Ver. 2.0.0.

ZONe has long promoted itself with digital, otaku culture-inspired campaigns, both online and offline, and it seems that they've successfully reached this audience. Moving forward, it seems like they plan to expand beyond just digital culture.

That being said, the topper that came with the new release still had phrases like "#超魔剤" (super magic potion) and "#無敵チート" (invincible cheat), so it seems they may still be focusing on that direction.

Personally, I enjoy the individuality of the digital-themed energy drink, but we'll see how they continue to develop!

This update addresses the previous criticism that ZONe had too little caffeine for its size. With 150mg of caffeine, it should be sufficient. Increasing it further might be excessive, and as the back label warns, it's important to be cautious of overconsumption.

I'm looking forward to seeing how ZONe’s "Unlimited Performance Energy" evolves in the future.
